Accents with Gnome

February 29th, 2008

Need to search for José González in Rhythmbox? Just found out about Sígur Rós?–Með Blóðnasir anyone? Had an essay on þe grammatical structures of Old English?

Being a native English speaker, I previously managed using the ‘Insert Symbol’ dialog, however lately I can’t seem to escape accents and letter forms. You too can be pretentious while using Instant Messenger by activating the ‘Compose’ key.

In Gnome go to System - Preferences - Keyboard - Layout Options then Compose Key Position.

There’s a handy table on Wikipedia that shows you how to use it.

(Actually Rhythmbox was updated a while ago to be accent-agnostic)
