Lowestoft Air Show 2005

July 29th, 2005

My little town of Lowestoft may not be the most exciting place to live all year round, but it does have its moments. Today was the second day of the air show that is put on over the seafront every year (hopefully something that will last long into the future).

My family went down rather early, so we watched virtually everything, though unfortunately gazing up into the sky so much on quite a sunny day has left my face rather red. My favourite part of the show by far are the Red Arrows, so I made sure to take lots of pictures, here are the best, rest your mouse over for captions:

Two of the red arrows coming very close to colliding with red and blue vapour trails behind themRays of sun infiltrate the vapour trails left of the red arrowsOne red arrow is flying upside down above another

One of the yellow planes swooping in the skyThe bomber casts an ominous shadow over the waterVery much like the description of the first picture

Some of these would make good wallpapers, if you’re not content with the compressed larger versions, then just email me (blog footer) and I’ll email you out the one you describe in a little better quality. Looking forward to your comments!

Looks quite spectacular. How often are such events held in Britain?

There have been some accidents at air shows around Britain, I think they have been closed down because of it.

A Harrier jet crashed into the sea while hovering a few metres over it a couple of years back at the Lowestoft Air Show, which was kind of disconcerting. Also they’re now relying on donations to provide the financial backing, so it seems events like this are ever under risk.

All in all, events like this don’t happen I should think any more than on a yearly basis.

Reminds me of the US air show held at Rammstein in Germany - did you know that is where the band “Rammstein” got their name from, and why they are so anti-American… …afterall a jet ploughed itself into the crowd…

Well, either way, so long as motor racing and such events as air shows can be perfomed, we definitely aren’t in an oil crisis… :-P

    Cheers,
    Pascal

My friend (Oi! Richard!) likes Rammstein, I wonder if he knew that.

How will we manage when the oil runs out…

The Lowestoft Air Festival is an annual event and 2005 was the 9th edition.
