For a bit of fun I’m making a forum theme, it’s going to be purply, hence the flower. I took a picture of a tulip with my digital camera, and erased the surrounding area with The GIMP. This was then imported into Inkscape, and vectorised with Potrace (it comes with the latest versions). After I had the base colour, I just duplicated it, and hinted different parts of the flower then overlaid it all at the end. With the bezier tool it was quite easy just to trace out the main petals and give them a deep purple tint. Mmm, smoke on the water.
It was all created with open source (free) software, follow the links above to download the programs.
