New Slang

February 6th, 2005

Got some CDs through yesterday. American Idiot, and Oh Inverted World . Greenday play their 3 chords perfectly as always; wait that was the cynical review. Actually this album is perfection, good lyrics and some welcome guitar lead seeping in here and there.

The Shins was bought on a whim, their name was dropped in Garden State and they sounded intriguing. I would post some pretty pictures up of the CD covers but I’m meant to be doing I.T. coursework. Ironic–doing computer related things at school actually prevents me from learning. I’m afraid that’s the reason why those Python tutorials are late in coming.

Moods are fleeting at the moment, I don’t know what to think or feel. I have nothing, want everything that I once had, which led me to have nothing. This verse from New Slang is most appropriate.

And if you’d ‘a took to me like
A gull takes to the wind.
Well, i’d ‘a jumped from my tree
And i’d a danced like the kind of the eyesores
And the rest of our lives would ‘a fared well.

I’m a believer in the good things in life, but they don’t all come wrapped in cellophane, and they don’t always turn out right. Live on.

Nice looking site. I’m also using WP, and ironically am a fan of The Shins, which I noticed you posted about fairly recently. I’ll keep checking back - looks good!

[…] I first got into The Shins in 2005 after watching Garden State. The twenties version of sixties The Graduate, to which it nods its head subtly with the inclusion of The Only Living Boy in New York. Like many people, my favourite song was New Slang, so I promptly bought the “Oh, Inverted World” CD and was treated to something more unusual than what I had expected, but still wonderful. […]
