About Me

Punting on the Cam in Cambridge

I don’t particularly like writing this directly about myself, but from reading other blogs I found myself quite drawn to knowing a bit about the writer, so I’ll write a little about myself here.

Currently I’m a first-year English student studying at the University of Leicester.

I live mainly in Lowestoft, the most easterly town in England. That means that for a long walk, you can be the first person to see the sunrise at Ness Point.

Lowestoft is in the county of Suffolk, which is a rather mixed place. It can range from Constable country to the Gin Lane etching by Hogarth. It’s home to an area of natural beauty called the “Broads” which is a mixture of wetland and navigable rivers. I can walk to the Oulton Broad from my house in 15 minutes, but inexplicably I can’t sail. Eric Blair (George Orwell) took his pseudonym from the River Orwell that runs through Suffolk to the North Sea in Felixstowe.

My favourite film is 2001: A Space Odyssey. This probably isn’t going to change.

My favourite artist is the late Johnny Cash.

Like most people, I listen to music an awful lot, you can see all on my Last.fm page.

Rather predictably my favourite beers are Adnams “The Bitter” and “Broadside”, which are both brewed in Southwold, a quintessentially English village which is also on the Suffolk coast.

I love the sunshine and find my moods normally go with the seasons.
